Oil cooler — removal and installation Ford F150
Warning: Wait until the engine is completely cool before beginning this procedure.
Note: On 2.7L engines the oil cooler is located on the front cover, at the front of the right-side cylinder head. On all other models it is located at the lower left front of the engine.
1. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
2. Drain the engine coolant (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
3. Remove the oil filter (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

4. Disconnect the two coolant hoses from the oil cooler

5. Remove the oil cooler mounting bolts and remove the oil cooler from the front cover.
6. Remove the seal from the front cover.
7. Install a new seal into the front cover.
8. Install the oil cooler and mounting bolts then tighten the bolts to the torque listed this Chapter’s Specifications.
9. Remaining installation is the reverse of removal, refill the cooling system and check the engine oil level (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
3.5L V6 and 5.0L V8 engines
10. The oil cooler is attached to the engine by the same large threaded tube that the oil filter is screwed onto. Remove the oil cooler threaded tube and remove the oil cooler assembly.
11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new 0-ring gasket between the oil cooler and the engine.
12. Refill the cooling system and check the engine oil level (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
