Fuel pump/fuel pump module — removal and installation Ford F150

Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system. See the Warning in Fuel pressure relief procedure.

1. Remove the fuel tank (refer to Fuel tank – removal and installation).

2. Remove the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank by turning the retaining ring counterclockwise, until it’s loose (see illustration). A special tool designed for this purpose is available, but a pair of large pliers or hammer and brass punch will work.

Warning: If a punch is used, use only a brass punch to avoid creating sparks.

3. Remove the retaining ring.

4. Separate the fuel pump from the assembly but do not remove.

5. Lift the fuel pump module up enough to disconnect the vent line quick-connect fitting

6. Remove the fuel pump module from the tank, tilting as necessary for the float arm to not be damaged

7. Remove the fuel pump 0-ring and discard

8. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange, the tank mounting surface and 0-ring groove.

9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Apply a thin coat of heavy grease to the new 0-ring to hold it in place during assembly.

10. Use care when inserting the fuel pump module into the tank. Connect the vent line quick-connect fitting.

11. Align the marks on the module and tank before tightening the retaining ring.

12. After installation, turn the ignition on and check for leaks.
