Starter motor — removal and installation Ford F150
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery (see Battery – disconnection and reconnection).
2. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
3. Remove the under vehicle cover and/or skid plate (as equipped). Remove the transmission skid plate (if equipped).
Starter electrical connections (2.7L model shown, others similar)
4. Open the protective cap for the solenoid cable terminal and disconnect both cables from the starter solenoid
5. On 3.3L and 3.5L models, remove the nut from the lower starter mounting bolt stud and remove the transmission cooler lines bracket from the stud.
Note: On 3.3L, 3.5L and 5.0L models, a ground cable is attached to the starter lower mounting bolt.
Remove the starter bolts (2.7L model shown, others similar)
6. On all models, remove the starter motor mounting bolts and detach the starter from the engine.
7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Tighten the starter mounting bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
