Auxiliary cooling — component removal and installation Ford F150

Cooler

1. Remove the grille (refer to Radiator grille and headlight housing trim – removal and installation).

2. Place a drain pan underneath the vehicle to catch fluid. Disconnect the transmission cooler hoses.

3. Release the clips on each end of the cooler and pull the cooler up to remove it.

4. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Coolant by-pass valve/fluid warmer (5.0L models)

Warning: Wait until the engine is completely cool before beginning this prodedure.

5. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.

6. Remove the skid plates as necessary to access the components for removal.

7. Locate the by-pass valve/fluid warmer on the frame, above the stabilizer bar.

8. Remove the bolt and disconnect the cooler hoses from the by-pass valve.

9. Remove the bolt and disconnect the cooler line from the by-pass valve.

10. Remove and discard the sealing rings for the lines.

11. Remove the two bolts attaching the bypass valve to the fluid warmer and remove the by-pass valve.

12. Remove the bolt and disconnect the cooler line from the fluid warmer.

13. Remove and discard the sealing rings for the lines and by-pass valve connection.

14. Clamp the coolant hoses for the fluid warmer to prevent coolant loss. Remove the hoses from the fluid warmer.

15. Remove the three bolts attaching the fluid warmer to the frame and remove the fluid warmer.

16. Installation is reverse of removal. Top off the transmission fluid and cooling system as necessary (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).

17. Lubricate the, sealing rings using clean engine oil during installation.
