Hood latch and release cable — removal and installation Ford F150
Latch
1. Scribe a line around the latch to aid alignment when reinstalling the latch assembly.
2. Remove the latch retaining bolts securing the latch to the radiator support (see illus tration) and remove the latch.

3. Disconnect the hood release cable by disengaging the cable from the back of the latch assembly then disconnect the electrical connector, if equipped.
4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Note: Adjust the latch so the hood engages securely when closed and the hood bumpers are slightly compressed.
Cable
5. Remove the hood latch as described earlier in this Section, then detach the cable from the latch. Remove the air intake duct/air filter housing (see Fuel and exhaust systems) then remove the radiator cover (see illustration).

6. Remove the left side headlight housing assembly (see Chassis electrical system).
7. Attach a length of wire to the end of the cable (in the engine compartment). This will be used to pull the new cable back into the engine compartment.
8. Working in the engine compartment, detach the cable from all of its retaining clips. It may be necessary to cut some of the clips to free the cable.
9. Working under the instrument panel, remove the left kick panel (see Instrument panel – removal and installation), then remove fastener and detach the hood release handle (see illustration). Dislodge the grommet and pull the cable through the firewall and into the cab.

10. Detach the wire from the old cable, then attach it to the end of the new cable.
Note: Make sure the new cable is equipped with a grommet.
11. Pull the new cable through the firewall and into the engine compartment. Seat the grommet in the firewall.
12. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
