Ignition switch and key lock cylinder — replacement Ford F150
Warning: The models covered by this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), more commonly known as airbags. Always disconnect the negative battery cable(s) and wait two minutes before working in the vicinity of any airbag system component to avoid the possibility of accidental deployment of the airbag, which could cause personal injury (see Airbag system – general information) .
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Battery – disconnection and reconnection).
Ignition switch -non-keyless models
2. Remove the steering column covers and the tilt-column handle, if equipped (see Body).
3. Unplug the ignition switch electrical connector (see illustration).
.3 To disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch, depress this release tab and pull the connector out
4. Press in on the two tabs securing the ignition switch to the steering column (see illustration).
.4 Depress the release tabs on top and bottom of the switch, then pull the switch out
5. Pull the switch away from the column to remove it.
6. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Check for proper operation of the ignition switch in the lock, start and accessory positions.
Ignition switch -keyless models
7. Remove the knee bolster panel (see Body).
8. Disconnect the electrical connector to the start/stop switch.
9. Depress the two tabs from the back side of the switch and push the switch out from the knee bolster panel.
10. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
Lock cylinder -non-keyless models
11. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see Battery – disconnection and reconnection).
12. Remove the steering wheel covers (see Body).
13. Disconnect the electrical connector to the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) transceiver. Use a small pick (such as a dental pick tool) and raise the two locking tabs far enough to allow the transceiver to be disconnected (see illustrations). Then remove the PATS transceiver.

14. Turn the key to the ACC position.
15. Insert a 1/8-inch punch or small blade screwdriver into the access hole. Depress the punch while pulling out on the lock cylinder to remove it from the steering column housing (see illustration).
.15 To remove the ignition lock cylinder, place the key in the «ACC» position, push in on the release tab with a small screwdriver or a small punch and pull the cylinder straight out
16. To install the lock cylinder, make sure the switch is in the ACC position and align the locking tab while pushing the cylinder into place.
17. Rotate the key back to the Off position.
This will allow the retaining pin to extend itself back into the locating hole in the steering column housing.
18. Turn the lock to ensure that operation is correct in all positions.
19. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
