Block heater — replacement Ford F150
Warning: The engine must be completely cool before beginning this procedure.
Note: The block heater is located on the left side of the engine block (on models so equipped).
1. Loosen the left-front wheel lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and the inner fender splash shield (see Body).
Note: It is not necessary to remove the wheel on V8 models.
2. Drain the cooling system (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
3. Turbocharged models: Remove the air filter housing and outlet pipe, and the left-side turbocharger inlet duct (see Fuel and exhaust systems).
4. V8 models: Remove the under-vehicle splash shields and skid plates, if equipped.
5. 4WD V8 models: Remove the alternator (see Engine electrical systems).
Location of the block heater. Not all models are equipped with a block heater, such as this one; a plug is installed in its place (2.7L engine shown, others similar)
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the block heater, then unscrew the block heater from the cylinder block.
7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the block heater to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
8. Refill the cooling system (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
