Rear axle assembly — removal and installation Ford F150
Removal
1. If equipped with EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) system, deactivate the EPB (see Brakes).
2. Block the front wheels. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, then raise the rear of the vehicle and support it with jackstands placed under the frame rails.
3. Remove the rear wheels.
4. Disconnect the driveshaft from the rear axle and support it out of the way.
5. Disconnect the ABS sensors (see Brakes).
6. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever and the parking brake bracket from the axle assembly. If equipped with EPB, disconnect the electrical connection to the parking brake actuator (see Brakes).

7. Disconnect the brake lines, vent hose, wire harness brackets and the ABS sensor brackets from the axle assembly.
Differential housing bracket locations

8. Remove the brake line mounting bolt from the top side of the axle assembly and the brackets for the wire harness and ABS sensor.
9. Disconnect the ELD connector from the left side of the differential housing.
10. Support the rear axle with a floor jack.
11. Remove the lower mounting bolts securing the rear shock absorbers to the axle (see Suspension and steering systems).
Remove the nuts and U-bolts securing the axle to the springs
12. With the jack(s) supporting the axle, remove and discard the nuts and U-bolts securing the axle to the springs.
13. Lower the axle assembly and remove it from under the vehicle.
Installation
14. Installation is the reverse of the removal.
15. Tighten all fasteners to the torque settings listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
Tighten the axle U-bolts in an «X» pattern.
16. Check and fill the axle with the specified lubricant (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
17. Reactivate the EPB (if equipped) (see Brakes).
