Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor — replacement Ford F150
Warning: Wait until the engine is completely cool before beginning this procedure.
Caution: The ECT sensor is not to be reused. Install only a NEW ECT sensor once it is removed.
Note: Only 2.7L models are equipped with an Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. Other models use a Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor.
1. Drain the cooling system (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
2. Remove the fuel rails (see Fuel rails and injectors – removal and installation), the water pump (see Chapter 3, Section 9) and the coolant outlet connector (coolant pipe) between the cylinder banks.
3. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
4. Unscrew the ECT sensor from the engine and discard.
5. Installation is reverse of removal. Tighten the NEW ECT sensor to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
6. Refill the cooling system (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
