Powertrain Control Module (PCM) — removal and installation Ford F150

Caution: To avoid electrostatic discharge damage to the PCM, handle the PCM only by its case. Do not touch the electrical terminals during removal and installation. If available, ground yourself to the vehicle with an anti-static ground strap, available at computer supply stores.

Note: The replacement of the PCM requires the new PCM to be programmed. This is a procedure that must be performed at a dealership or other properly equipped repair facility.

1. If the PCM is to be replaced, it is best to have a dealership or qualified repair facility perform the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) procedure along with other required procedures. These procedures involve downloading the current data from the existing PCM and uploading it to the new PCM after installation as well as identifying the vehicle the PCM is installed in (as-built data). Take this into consideration prior to replacing the PCM.
