Radiator — removal and installation Ford F150
Warning: The air conditioning system is under high pressure. DO NOT loosen any fittings or remove any components until after the system has been discharged. Air conditioning refrigerant should be properly discharged into an EPA-approved container at a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning repair facility. Always wear eye protection when disconnecting air conditioning system fittings.
Warning: The engine must be completely cool when this procedure is performed.
1. Drain the cooling system (see Tune-up and routine maintenance).
2. Remove the cooling fan and shroud (see Cooling fan and shroud – removal and installation).
Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the expansion tank hose clamps, then detach the hoses
3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the expansion tank hose from the radiator (see illustration).
Use a screwdriver to pull the clip out to disconnect the quick-connect hose
4. Remove the lower radiator hose retaining clip (see illustration) and disconnect the quick-connect hose from the bottom of the radiator.
5. Remove the radiator grille (see Body).

6. Remove the left and right side air deflector push-pin retainers (see illustrations) and move the deflectors out of the way.
7. On models without an auxiliary transmission cooler, disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the radiator and plug the openings.

8. Remove the transmission cooler line bracket bolt (see illustration).
Disconnect the auxiliary cooler lines (A) then remove the cooler mounting bolts (B)
9. On models with an auxiliary transmission cooler, disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the radiator and plug the openings, then remove the auxiliary cooler mounting bolts (see illustration) and secure the cooler out of the way.
10. Remove the radiator mounting bolts and tilt the radiator backwards.

11. Remove the condenser mounting bolts (see illustrations).
Depress the locking tabs inward and lift the condenser up and out of its mounts on the radiator
12. Depress the condenser retaining tabs then lift the condenser up to separate it from the radiator (see illustration).
13. Lift the radiator up and out of the vehicle, taking care not to damage the fins on the radiator or the condenser.

14. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure the condenser clips into its brackets on the radaitor and the radiator is seated in the lower grommets (see illustration). Tighten the mounting bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
15. Fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze, and also check the automatic transmission and power steering fluid levels.
16. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, then check for leaks.
