Door latch, lock cylinder and handle — removal and installation Ford F150

Door latch (front)

1. Remove the front door trim panel and watershield as described in Door trim panels – removal and installation.

2. Remove the door speaker (see Chassis electrical system).

3. Disconnect the window from the regulator, then push the window fully upwards by hand and use tape to secure it in this position (see Door window glass – removal and installation).

4. Remove the window regulator mounting nuts (see Door window glass regulator – removal and installation) and slide the regulator forward and out of the way.

5. Remove the outside door handle (see Steps 12 through 16).

6. Remove the bolts securing the latch to the door (see illustration).

7. Remove the window rear guide bolts (see illustration). Push the inside door handle cable and also the lock rod into the inside of the door.

8. Working through the large access hole, position the latch as necessary to disconnect the electrical connectors, then remove the latch and window guide, together as an assembly, from the door.

9. Remove the necessary latch fasteners and disconnect the cables, then separate the latch from the window guide and related components. Transfer these components onto the new latch.

10. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Door lock cylinder and outside handle (front)

11. To remove the outside handle and door lock cylinder assembly, first remove the front door trim panel and watershield as described in Door trim panels – removal and installation.

12. Remove the plug on the end of the door, then remove the handle retaining bolt (see illustration).

13. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector from the outside handle.

14. Remove the remaining inside handle fasteners. (see illustration).

15. Pull the front of the handle outwards and slide the handle to the front (see illustration) and out of the door.

16. Disconnect the necessary cables and rods, then remove the door handle (see illustration).

.16 Remove the cable by releasing the cable body from the bracket (1), then unhook the cable end from the lever’s slot (2). Also disconnect the lock cylinder rod (3) from the handle.

Note: On some models, there may be more cables/rods to disconnect than what is shown, but can be disconnected in a similar manner.

17. For the removal of the door lock cylinder, release the retaining tabs, rotate the door lock cylinder counter-clockwise, then slide the cylinder out of the handle (see illustration).

1. Release the door lock cylinder retaining tabs by sliding them outward
2. Rotate the door lock cylinder counter-clockwise, then pull it out of the handle

18. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Door latches (rear) — SuperCab models

Note: SuperCab models are equipped with two rear door latches.

Upper latch

19. Remove the rear door trim panel and splash shield (see Door trim panels – removal and installation).

20. Remove the upper latch bolts (near the top of the door).

21. Disconnect the cable and remove the latch.

22. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Lower latch

23. Remove the rear door trim panel and splash shield (see Door trim panels – removal and installation).

24. Disconnect the cables and remove the rear door inside handle.

25. Remove the three rear door lower latch bolts at the bottom of the door.

26. Push any cables or grommets that are connected to the latch into the inside of the door, the disconnect any electrical connectors and guide the latch out of the door opening.

27. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Door latch (rear) — SuperCrew models

28. Remove the rear door trim panel and splash shield (see Door trim panels – removal and installation).

29. Remove the rear outside door handle (see Steps 36 through 39).

30. Separate the window glass from the window regulator and tape the window in the «fully up» position (see Door window glass regulator – removal and installation).

31. Remove the rear door window regulator mounting nuts, then position the regulator temporarily out of the way.

32. Remove the three latch bolts from the side of the door.

33. Remove the lower window guide bolt (on the side opposite of the speaker).

34. Push any cables or grommets that are connected to the latch into the inside of the door, the disconnect any electrical connectors and guide the latch assembly out of the door opening.

35. Transfer the necessary components from the old latch assembly onto the new latch. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Outside door handle (rear) — SuperCrew models

36. Remove the rear door trim panel and splash shield (see Door trim panels – removal and installation).

37. Remove the outside door handle access
plug and mounting bolt from the side’of the door.

38. Remove the two mounting nut access covers on the inside of the door (at the same height as the bolt previously removed), then remove the nuts.

39. Pull out on the handle and slide it rearward, then position the handle outside of the door. Disconnect the cable, then remove the rear outside handle.

40. Installation is the reverse of removal.
