Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor — replacement and adjustment Ford F150
Note: All models are «drive-by-wire» and do not have an accelerator cable. The APP sensor communicates the desired pedal position to the PCM, the PCM then actuates the throttle body to the desired throttle angle.
Note: On models with adjustable pedals, after removing and installing or replacing the APP sensor, the cable between the brake pedal and accelerator pedal requires adjustment.
1. The APP sensor is used to monitor the driver’s demand for power. The PCM adjusts the amount of fuel injected into the cylinders according to the position of the pedal. A problem in the APP sensor circuit will set a diagnostic trouble code (see Emissions and engine control systems).
2. Disconnect the APP sensor electrical connector. On models with adjustable pedals, disconnect both connectors.
3. On models with adjustable pedals, disconnect the cable running between the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal, at the brake pedal.
Slide the connector lock up then depress the tab (A) and disconnect the electrical connector, then remove the APP sensor mounting fasteners (B)
4. On all models, remove the mounting fasteners and remove the APP sensor and accelerator pedal
5. Installation is reverse of removal.
6. On models with adjustable pedals, perform the cable adjustment procedure (see Adjustable brake pedal and bracket – removal, installation and indexing).
