Transfer case Ford F150
1. Borg-Warner 4469 and 4467 2-speed torque-on-demand transfer case are both Electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system.
Electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system
2. The electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system on 4WD vehicles allows the driver to engage 4WD High while the vehicle is moving. The hub locks are engaged automatically, and an electronic shift is initiated. A switch on the dash allows a selection of 2WD, 4WD High or 4WD Low. The vehicle must be at a complete stop, with the transmission in Neutral and the brake applied before 4WD Low can be engaged.
Neutral flat towing procedure
Note: 4WD vehicles system have the ability to be towed on all 4 wheels with the transfer case in neutral. The neutral flat towing activation procedure instructs the transfer case to place the shift motor into a neutral position. Having the transfer case in neutral prevents damage to the transmission while towing (for example: behind a motorhome).
Caution: 2WD vehicles CANNOT be flat towed with any of the wheels on the ground. Damage to the transmission or vehicle may occur.
Note: An mechanical sound may be heard when the transfer case shifts into or out of the NEUTRAL position.
Enable
Warning: When the transfer case is in neutral for neutral flat towing, the vehicle may be able to roll — even with the transmission in Park (P). Press the brake pedal while the transfer case is shifted to neutral. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury or property damage.
3. Turn the ignition ON — do not start the engine. If the vehicle has keyless start/stop, with your foot off of the brake pedal, press the engine START/STOP button once.
4. Press the brake pedal and hold steady.
5. Rotate the shift range select switch into 2H position.
6. Shift the transmission shift lever to the neutral (N) position.
7. Rotate the shift range select switch exactly as follows: within seven seconds, rotate from 2H to 4L and back to 2H five times.
8. When successful, the instrument cluster reads «NEUTRAL TOW LEAVE IN N» or «NEUTRAL TOW ENABLED LEAVE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL». Repeat the procedure if one of these messages does not appear.
- Leave the transmission in neutral and turn the ignition off while towing.
- The key will remain in the vehicle while Use the keyless entry to lock and unlock the vehicle.
- If the vehicle has keyless start/stop, with your foot off of the brake pedal, press the engine START/STOP button once. The key does not need to remain in the vehicle while towing.
9. Remove your foot from the brake pedal.

10. Turn the ignition ON — do not start the engine. If the vehicle has keyless start/stop, with your foot off of the brake pedal, press the engine START/STOP button once.
11. Press the brake pedal and hold steady.
12. Shift the transmission shift lever to any position except Park (P) or Neutral (N).
13. Remove your foot from the brake pedal.
14. When successful, the instrument cluster reads «NEUTRAL TOW DISABLED». Repeat the procedure if one of these messages does not appear.
