Rear output shaft oil seal — replacement Ford F150
Note: Front output shaft oil seal replacement requires disassembly of the transfer case for replacement, and is not covered.
1. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
2. Remove the transfer case skid plate as necessary to access the seal.
3. Remove the rear driveshaft (see Driveline).
Carefully pry out the old seal
4. Pry out the seal with a screwdriver or a seal removal tool. Don’t damage the seal bore.
5. Lubricate the new seal lips with petroleum jelly.
Drive the seal into place with a seal driver or a large socket
6. Drive the seal into place with a seal driver or a large socket. The outside diameter of the socket should be slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal.
7. Install the driveshaft (see Driveline).
8. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
