Engine mounts — check and replacement Ford F150
Note: The tightening torque required for installing the engine mount through-bolts is considerable. Make sure you have access to a high-torque torque wrench before beginning.
Note: The following is the factory-recommended procedure, using an engine support fixture from above. With some creativity and depending on tool selection, it may be possible to replace the engine mounts without performing some of the steps listed here.
1. There are three powertrain mounts on the vehicles covered by this manual; left and right engine mounts attached to the engine block and the frame, and a rear mount attached to the transmission and the transmission crossmember. The rear transmission mount is covered in Automatic transmission. Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately or the added strain placed on the driveline components may cause damage or wear.
Check
2. During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts.
3. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
4. Position a jack under the engine oil pan. Place a large wood block between the jack head and the oil pan, then carefully raise the engine just enough to take the weight off the mounts.
Warning: DO NOT place any part of your body under the engine when it’s supported only by a jack!
5. Check for relative movement between the inner and outer portions of the mount (use a large screwdriver or prybar to attempt to move the mounts). If movement is noted, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners.
6. Check the mounts to see if the rubber is cracked, hardened or separated from the metal casing which would indicate a need for replacement.
Replacement
Warning: A high amount of torque must be employed to remove/install the engine mounts. Unless you have the proper tools, you may not be able to fully tighten the fasteners, which is an unsafe condition. Have the job done at a shop or dealership.
Caution: Use only hand tools to either remove or install the engine mount through-bolts.
7. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery (see Battery – disconnection and reconnection).
8. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.

9. Remove the air filter housing (see Fuel and exhaust systems).
10. Remove the charge air cooler intake and outlet pipes (see Fuel and exhaust systems).
11. Remove the under-vehicle splash shield and skid plate if equipped.
12. Remove the front exhaust Y pipe bolts from all three ends and lower the pipe.
13. On 4WD models, remove the front driveshaft (see Driveline).
14. On 4WD models, support the front axle housing with a floor jack, then remove the three housing mounting bolts (see Driveline) and lower the housing down enough to allow the mount to be removed.
15. On 2WD models, remove the front stabilizer bar bracket nuts (see Suspension and steering systems) and allow the bar to swing down.
16. Using a floor jack, place a block of wood onto the jack, then place the jack at the rear of the engine-transmission and raise the engine just enough to take the weight off the mount.

20. Remove the hood (see Body).
21. Remove the air filter housing (see Fuel and exhaust systems).
22. On turbocharged models, remove the charge air cooler intake and outlet pipes (see Fuel and exhaust systems).
23. Remove the intake manifold (see Exhaust manifolds – removal and installation).
24. Remove the right rear ignition coil (see Engine electrical systems).
25. Attach lifting eyes at the right-front and left-rear of the engine. Support the engine with a hoist or a lifting device such as an engine support fixture.
Caution: Raise the engine just enough to take the weight off the engine mounts.
26. Remove the under-vehicle splash shield.
27. Remove the skid plate, if equipped.
28. Remove the front exhaust Y pipe bolts from all three ends and lower the pipe.
29. Loosen, but don’t remove, the nuts on the transmission mount crossmember (see Automatic transmission).
30. On 4WD models, place a floor jack under the front differential and chain or otherwise securely retain the differential to the jack. Raise the front axle slightly, and remove the differential mounting bushing bolts, then lower the differential for room to access the engine mounts. Remove the front driveshaft (see Driveline).
31. Remove the engine mount through-bolt (see illustrations ⇑). use only hand tools do not use impact tools to remove the mount nuts/bolts.
32. Remove the bracket-to-engine block bolts, then remove the bracket.
33. Remove the three bolts securing the mount insulator to the frame rail.
